Hey - This week so far: 2 MRIs, a bone density scan, a mammogram, and a GYN annual exam. It's Tuesday. 😳 **MS doesn't make us immune to any other health issues. We MUST stay on top of all tests and preventative measures. Fun? Nope. Necessary? Yep. Next week: 1 more MRI, appt with my new neurologist, and my Briumvi infusion. Then: 🍷 Cheers! 😉
Here's your 6-Pack:
1. New finding in PPMS. Increased cholesterol may contribute to the worsening of MS by damaging the nervous system. Research reveals how statins may protect brain cells and slow disease progression, offering hope for new treatment strategies.🤞🏻 New Study Uncovers Cholesterol's Role in Worsening Multiple Sclerosis2. Fortuitous find ~ in my research this week I came across this article that highlights my comments in the greeting: we have to address ALL health issues. Everything impacts this damned disease. Treat one - you treat them all. Don't treat them - they can all be impacted. Especially MS. Comorbidities raise risk of disease activity, disability progression3. Fatigue. It's THE most common MS symptom. And it's super debilitating. And it can cause the dreaded "cog fog." And the 2 together are the reason that 70% of MS'ers are unable to work within 10 years of diagnosis. UGH.🥱 💤 This study shows that treatment with modafinil, a medication used to reduce excessive sleepiness, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can both provide clinically meaningful reductions in fatigue in people with MS: Modafinil and talk therapy are both useful for easing MS fatigue: Study**Want to hear about what helped me with my MS fatigue?? “I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.”~ Maya Angelou
4. We're getting closer to myelin repair and it's so exciting! I read so many studies and articles each week in my curation for this newsletter and I'm telling you - researchers have MS on in their sites!!! Here's an example of that: Treating MS with gene-edited brain cells5. Janice Dean, meteorologist on Fox News, we diagnosed with MS in 2005. Here's an article about her journey: Fox News Meteorologist Janice Dean Is a ‘Better Person’ After Living with Multiple Sclerosis for 20 Years6. In a nod to Spooky Season being upon us, this study looks at blood🩸leaking into our brains 🧠. Huh?? Study finds novel approach to treat neurological diseases

I was busy this week hydrating (read: fattening up my veins) for my 12 pages of blood work, my MRI contrast stick, and my upcoming infusion. As such, I wanted to share my trick - I supplement plain water with coconut water. It has naturally occurring electrolytes which means it is more hydrating than water. I have posted about this over on my TikTok account and I've heard back from several people that they tried it and it worked for them too. So - here's my preferred coconut water. Give it a try!! Coconut Water
