Hey - I'm baaaaaaack! I took a week off and went WAY up north - to the north shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. It's gorgeous up there and I got lucky with great weather. I was there with my sister and my sister-in-law celebrating our 3 milestone bdays. We did the "Art Along the Lake" studio tour. We got to go into artist's homes/studios, meet them, watch them work, and purchase their work. AND - we stayed at a beautiful, old resort right on Lake Superior. There's something special about watching the sun come up over the big lake - and finishing the day with a glass of wine on its shore. *I missed a show of the Northern Lights by 1 day. π If you're interested, here's a link to the resort and the annual tour: Naniboujou Lodge | Art Along the Lake TourEnough about your time off, lady. This study represents a significant step forward in the use of personalized cell therapies for autoimmune diseases, potentially revolutionizing how multiple sclerosis is treated. It's a pretty novel approach. FDA grants investigational device exemption to vagus nerve stimulation system for MS3. Seeing double is not uncommon when you have MS. In fact, that's what sent me to the doctor when I was diagnosed. I had sixth-nerve palsy and there were two of everything. We're familiar with the association of having EBV (Epstein Barr Virus) antibodies and MS. But Rubella? YES - Rubella. You know - the "R" in the MMR vaccine. Prevalence and Impact of Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Multiple Sclerosis (SOMNUS) - This study will evaluate the influence of sleep apnea on clinical and radiological features of MS. Sleep apnea is associated with hypoxemia during sleep, which is likely detrimental to MS. Clinical data (MRI, lab results, medical history, labs, and sleep studies) of MS patients will be collected and analyzed. This will be done to study correlations between MRI, clinical data, lab studies and sleep studies. There is specific interest in the type of sleep apnea associated with MS, and whether MRI or clinical metrics of MS severity correlate with presence or absence of sleep apnea.
The purpose of this research is to examine the effects of two different exercise training regimens for managing depression and improving other health indicators among persons with multiple sclerosis (MS). The project will enroll persons with MS and major depressive disorder (MDD) between 18 and 64 years of age. The investigators will enroll a total of 146 participants. This is a Phase-II trial that compares the efficacy of an exercise training program (POWER-MS) compared with a stretching program (FLEX-MS) for immediate and sustained reductions in the severity of depression among persons with MS who have MDD.
