Oh L๐k - it's the FUMS 6-Pack ๐บ

Hey -
It's the 2nd week of June already. I'm flummoxed. How does time keep picking up speed? Do you feel that too? We've had THE BEST weather in Virginia Beach all spring - but it's gearing up. Later this week the temperatures will climb and the humidity will be there to greet it! UGH. And then -
MS'OPAUSE
. You know - when you get hot and can't cool down. When you feel like you're baking from the inside out. When your core temperature goes up, refuses to come down, and the rest of your body revolts! That's what I call
MS'opause
. Time for my cooling vest, air conditioning, misting fans, and TONS and TONS of water (preferably coconut water). That's what I have in my MS'opause tool kit. If you have found anything else helpful, let me know!
OK - ready to see what's up in the MS world?? Let's see . . .
1. Bladder dysfunction is incredibly common in MS. Just another gift from the MonSter. My bestie Erin (a pelvic floor physical therapist) and I wrote a book about it. Check it out here:
. I'm grateful that the medical community continues to look for resources and solutions like this:
2. I was diagnosed after I had both of my daughters. I can only imagine how scary it is to either be pregnant or be hoping to start a family and get a diagnosis. The DMTs or no joke and introducing them - even through breastmilk - would be frightening. Kudos to TG Therapeutics for conducting two studies to determine how safe Briumvi (ublituximab-xiiy) is among people with relapsing forms of MS who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as their babies.
3. Resistance training by middle-aged people with MS was linked with significant improvements in muscle strength in a recent meta-analysis of previous clinical trial data. I would venture to say that resistance training by ANYONE would improve muscle strength! ๐ Do YOU do resistance training? Lifting weights, using weight machines, resistance bands - even using your own weight by doing sit-ups counts!
4. When I talk with newly diagnosed folks I always lead with "there's never been a better time to have MS." And I mean it. There is a ton of wonderful research going on right now. The landscape of this disease, it's treatment and prognosis have changed completely since I was dx'ed in 2008. I've always believed that there will be a cure in my lifetime. This article is both a history lesson and a feel-good story:
5. Restless Leg Syndrome or RLS, is VERY common in MS. Did you know that?? I didn't - until I went digging a bit. I have been experiencing a bit of RLS myself lately. Especially on my trip back from Italy - where I sat on a plane for HOURS. So - this article and referenced study makes total sense. And - it's just one more reason to KEEP MOVING:
6. How's your manual dexterity? Has it stayed the same? Is it worsening? It could shed some light on your future cognitive function!

Here's some help for MS'opause. This one's a 3-fer. The first 2 I have and love, and the third one came as a recommendation from another FUMS'er - and I'm intrigued!

P.S. You may have noticed that I'm trying several different things - product recommendations, clinical trial notices, MS events calendar, etc. I'm thinking of running various features of an FUMS'er's story, articles on exceptional MS docs or other practitioners, MS Centers, etc. Please hit reply and let me know what you think. Is there something you wish I'd include in the 6-Pack? Are these new features an improvement? A distraction? I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks in advance.
